Mental health is too important to ignore, but often too hard for managers to discuss. Tailored Consulting provides strategies, training and counselling to get the conversation started in your work place.
We know statistics around mental health are alarming:
- One in five Australians experiences a mental health condition in a given year.
- One in two will experience a mental health condition in their lifetime and
- Every day, nearly eight Australians die by suicide.
Work-related mental injury is the second most common cause of workers’ compensation claims in Australia. Under workplace health and safety laws employers are responsible for creating a physically and mentally safe workplace.
How do we begin the conversation about mental wellbeing?
Tailored Consulting recommends 3 Strategies:
First, as an organisation it is important to take a proactive approach to mental health with the understanding that maintaining good mental health is an ongoing conversation and not something that is only addressed once a person is identified as unwell.
Second, provide training and awareness sessions with line managers or leadership teams around mental health, to support them in breaking down the stigma and barriers associated with disclosure and make it easier for people to come forward.
Third, build a culture that supports people once they come forward and encourage and educate everyone to reflect on their own health and wellbeing by having the conversations and implementing strategies of support if they’re stressed or struggling. (ie RU OK? program)
